Verbit, joiden jälkeen tulee infinitiivi
Monien verbien jälkeen tulee, tai voi tulla toinen verbi infinitiivimuodossa. Kaikki tämän sivun listatut verbit saavat jälkeensä to-infinitiivin, kun käytetään infinitiivimuotoa. Verbit, joissa on asteriski, voivat saada peräänsä myös that-lauseen, kuten esimerkeistä näkyy. Verbit, joissa on kaksi asteriskia, voivat saada peräänsä vain that-lauseen, kun pääverbin subjekti on "it".

Verbit ilman substantiivia, ennen that-lausetta
Kun tiettyjen verbien jälkeen on that-lause, lauseessa ei ole substantiivia ennen that-lausetta, vaikkakin lauseessa on substantiivi ennen infinitiiviä. Näin tapahtuu verbien command, direct, entreat, implore, order, require, & trust kanssa.

Verbit, joissa on substantiivi ennen that-lausetta
Muut verbit, jotka tulevat that-lauseen jälkeen, vaativat substantiivin, ennen that-lausetta, juuri ennen infinitiiviä. Näin tapahtuu verbeillä persuade & remind.

Verbit, joilla on valinnainen substantiivi, ennen that-lausetta
Viimeinen verbiryhmä, joka tulee that-lauseen jälkeen, ottaa valinnaisen substantiivin ennen that-lausetta. Näin tapahtuu verbeillä instruct, teach, & warn.

Ilmauksen to dare -käytöstä
Kielteisissä ja kysymyslauseissa on mahdollista käyttää infinitiiviä yhdessä tai ilman 'to', kunhan molempien verbien subjekti on sama. Yleisempää on kuitenkin jättää pois 'to'. Jos kahden verbin subjekti on eri, sinun täytyy käyttää sanaa 'to'.
